Complete a local task, get the special bait, set up the rod and cast it to lure the boss in. From there every fight in the game follows the same skeleton:

• Avoid its telegraphed ("promised") attack — the charge, run or roll.
• Deal damage during the hard-hit window after the attack fails.
• Never exhaust the white patience bar under the health bar — exhaustion means the boss runs away and the bait becomes invalid.
• After the kill, keep the trophy/corpse and hand it to the corresponding NPC — the map only updates then.

The island and the route only change when local NPCs receive the items and new points appear on the radar. Fishing more will not unlock the map — it can only be done by killing the correct boss and returning the correct trophies. If the radar still points at the same rock, check the hand-in transaction before buying new parts.

💡 General rules worth carrying into every fight: eat before you cast (Giant Piranha and both whale battles must have healing), dynamite ($25) suits predictable short bursts but never replaces a gun, and check the drops before selling trophies.
