๐Ÿ”ซ How to Fish Weapons Guide

From the starting knife to sniper rifles and dynamite: weapon prices, unlock timing and recommended loadouts for bosses and trick shots, based on player-tested data.

Quick Answer: Which Weapon First?

Knife early (about $45, polished at the Anvil), Shotgun on Island 2 (about $150) as the early-mid workhorse, then the Assault Rifle with upgrade modules before the final Bowhead Whale fight. The developer has not released an exact damage table โ€” everything here is player-tested, and skins are purely cosmetic.

  • Buy order: Knife ($45) + Anvil polish โ†’ Shotgun ($150) โ†’ SMG/Uzi supplement โ†’ Assault Rifle + modules.
  • Buy by obstacle: melee if close fights drag on, long-range if bosses reach you mid-reload.
  • Concentrate attachments on one gun โ€” the "Fully equipped" achievement needs all attachments on the same weapon.

Knife (Fishing Knife)

The most important close-range upgrade at the start, about $45 (Brass Knuckles at about $24 is the budget alternative), bought at the Lighthouse Island store. Polish it at the Anvil next to the Lighthouse door to raise damage โ€” guides report about 20 damage after polishing.

  • Quickly clears small and medium creatures and handles the first boss, the Spider Crab.
  • During the Spider Crab fight, bait its charge, let it stun, then engage in melee.

Shotgun

About $150 at the Island 2 (Forest) store โ€” the strongest investment from early to mid-game that stays useful for most of the run with continued bullet upgrades. High close-range damage against groups and larger targets.

  • Buy immediately upon reaching Island 2.
  • Effective against the Giant Piranha, Blue Shark, Tuna and similar bosses.
  • Weak against long-range aerial targets like the Albatross โ€” switch to the Uzi or a Sniper.

SMG / Uzi

A compact automatic weapon from the mid-level island store, priced in the mid band (guides do not list one exact price). Continuous firepower for medium range and high rate-of-fire situations.

  • Performs well against the Pufferfish and other bosses that require shooting while moving (pair with extended magazines and a compensator).
  • Used against airborne targets such as the Albatross.
  • Also the common practice weapon for skill kills (Killscore).

Assault Rifle

The late-game core weapon โ€” fully automatic, relatively expensive, and requiring upgrade modules to reach full effect. It is considered necessary before the final boss, the Bowhead Whale / Mutated Whale.

  • Buy and upgrade it before challenging the final Whale.
  • Combine with attachments (extended magazines) and healing items.
  • Keep moving during the fight to avoid the Whale's attacks.

Purchase and Upgrade Priority

  • Knife ($45) + Anvil polish โ€” early melee and the Spider Crab.
  • Shotgun ($150) โ€” Island 2 main weapon; keep upgrading ammunition.
  • SMG/Uzi โ€” mid-game supplement for mobile shooting and aerial targets.
  • Assault Rifle + upgrade modules โ€” the prerequisite before the Whale fight.
  • Principle: buy for the current obstacle, focus attachments on a single main weapon, and skip cosmetic spending.

Skins, Attachments and Team Tips

  • All weapons can get skins from the Reel of Fortune (using Drip creatures); hold the weapon and press Z / C to switch. Skins are appearance-only.
  • The "Fully equipped" achievement requires all attachments on the same weapon.
  • In co-op, split roles: one player close-range with the Shotgun, another mid/long-range with the SMG or Assault Rifle.
  • There is no official DPS table โ€” judge by feel and by what each boss demands.
