🎨 How to Change Boat Skin in How to Fish — All Boat Skins
Switch boat skins by holding the wheel and pressing Z or C — no prompt tells you this. Where skins come from (the Reel of Fortune), all three boat skins, and the rarity tiers explained.
Quick Answer: Hold the Wheel, Press Z or C
Drive the boat, hold the steering wheel, and press Z or C to cycle through your unlocked boat skins (on a controller it is right on the D-Pad). The game never shows a prompt for this, which is why most players think the feature does not exist. Skins are cosmetic only — speed and durability do not change.
💡 Z and C cycle in opposite directions — if you pass the skin you wanted, tap the other key.
Why Nobody Finds This
Unlike shops and tools, the boat has no interaction prompt while driving — the skin-swap keys just silently work when your hands are on the wheel. The same hidden system applies to weapon skins: hold the weapon and press Z or C to cycle them (documented on the controls page).
Where Skins Come From: The Reel of Fortune
Skins roll out of the Reel of Fortune, the island 2-5 prize machine. Its boat pool takes two kinds of currency:
- Drip creatures — kill any creature whose catch text glows rainbow (a "drip" variant) and feed it into the Reel to spin the rare pools.
- Spidercrab Shells — the Spider Crab boss drops shells that substitute as Reel of Fortune currency, making the first boss farmable for skin spins.
💡 Hunting drip variants is a completion goal anyway (the Fishipedia counts them), so every drip catch is simultaneously bestiary progress and a skin ticket.
All Boat Skins
Reel of Fortune results show three rarity backgrounds as the skin card lands — plain, red and gold from commonest to rarest. A skin won once stays unlocked for Z/C cycling forever.
| Skin | How to get | Rarity tier |
|---|---|---|
| Brown (default) | Owned from the start | — |
| Red and White Stripes | Reel of Fortune boat pool | Mid tier |
| Rainbow | Reel of Fortune boat pool | Top tier |
