๐Ÿ’พ How to Fish Save Issues - Fixes

Where How to Fish stores saves, how Steam Cloud interacts with them, and what to do when a save or the radar goes missing after a patch.

Quick Fix: Save Problems

How to Fish saves automatically every minute and on Save / Main Menu / Quit; since patch 1.0.6 crashes no longer write to new save files. The single best habit is manually copying the Saves folder after important progress.

  • Use the menu's Save / Main Menu / Quit option after big milestones โ€” the save function was improved in later patches.
  • Auto-save runs every minute during normal play.
  • Regularly copy the whole Saves folder somewhere safe.
  • The game is not listed on Steam Cloud โ€” there is no automatic cross-device sync.

Save File Locations

  • Windows: C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\LocalLow\Dazed Games\How to Fish\Saves\
  • Proton / Steam Deck: <SteamLibrary>/steamapps/compatdata/4001890/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/LocalLow/Dazed Games/How to Fish/Saves/

Save Behavior After Patch 1.0.6

  • Crashes no longer write to new save files.
  • Normal saves: auto-save every minute, plus a manual save whenever the player presses Save / Main Menu / Quit.
  • Manual saving after important progress is still the recommended habit.

Lost Radar or Missing Items

  • Verifying game files will not restore missing in-game items such as a lost Radar.
  • If the Radar is gone: return to the Lighthouse Shop and check whether it can be repurchased (player-confirmed, not officially guaranteed).
  • Missing saves: check the LocalLow folder and your own backups โ€” there is no cloud copy to fall back on.

๐Ÿ’ก Items lost after a patch are a known report category โ€” the wiki tracks them, but the official recovery path today is only the shop repurchase check.
