Quick Answer: What Are Item IDs in How to Fish?

Item IDs are the numbers the game writes into your save file to identify every fish, weapon, tool and trophy — integers running from 0 to 85. The game has no console and no cheat commands, so save-file editing is the only way to inject an item: open the save, add an inventory entry with the ItemID you want, and load it. The full community-mapped table is below.

💡 IDs 30, 31, 53, 80 and 81 have no entry in the community table — they are skipped in the source, not typos here.

Fish & Creature IDs (0–52)

Every catchable fish and creature, including the bosses interleaved in the 5–15 range. Note the gap between 29 and 32 — IDs 30 and 31 have no listed item.

Weapon & Tool IDs (54–73)

Everything you can hold and shoot with. IDs 58 and 64 are debug clones the community table marks as unusable, and 71–73 are the three snowball entries with no function.

62Disc72Snowball 2 (no function)
63Knife73Snowball 3 (no function)

Boss Trophy & Special IDs (74–85)

The boss hand-in trophies, the secret-boss entries and the two meat-chunk denominations. 79 Rock Crab is listed in the source table alongside the trophies even though it is a regular creature.

IDItem
74Albatross Head
75Giant Piranha Skeleton
76Pufferfish Fin
77Spidercrab Shell
78Whale Fin
79Rock Crab
82Bing Bong (entry 1)
83Bing Bong (entry 2)
84Meat Chunk ($1,000)
85Meat Chunk ($25)

💡 Do not spawn boss trophies (74–78) into a fresh save to skip progression — the hand-in quests expect the kill to have happened, and shortcut saves are the classic route to a stuck island chain.

How to Edit Your Save, Step by Step

  • Close the game — saves rewrite on exit and would overwrite your edit.
  • Back up everything under %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\Dazed Games\How to Fish\Saves.
  • Open the save .txt for your slot — it is a single-line JSON file.
  • Find your inventory array and copy an existing entry as a template: {"Exists":true,"InventorySlot":5,"ItemID":63,"Cookness":0.0,...}.
  • Paste the copy after the last entry (comma before it), set ItemID to the ID from the tables above, and give it an InventorySlot one higher than your current maximum.
  • Keep flags like ExtendedMag or LaserSight false unless you deliberately want them.
  • Save the .txt, launch, and check your inventory.

💡 Broken JSON = broken save. If the game refuses to load, restore the backup folder — this is exactly why step 2 exists.

Useful Save Fields Beyond ItemID

Caveats & Alternatives

  • This table is a community mapping (Steam community guide and Guidexon, captured August 23, 2026), not an official dump — new patches can shift IDs, so re-verify after updates.
  • The game has no console, cheat commands or redeem codes — anything claiming to be an in-game code list is about a different game (see the codes guide).
  • A trainer mod (via BepInEx) can spawn items at runtime without touching the save — see the mods page if you would rather not hand-edit JSON.
  • Steam achievements generally keep unlocking on edited saves, but progression-critical edits can soft-lock the island chain — hand-in trophies especially.
